Fan Of AC/DC

This is maybe just an update on the post I made about Thunderstruck a big hit for AC/DC . I liked the band, but the first frontman was much better than the 2nd one. No matter how hard he tried to sound like the 1st one. I bought Let There Be Rock because of the hit the album is named after and of course Whole Lotta Rosie, with that classic guitarriff. AC/DC did use variations of the same riff in other songs, but there can only one Whole Lotta Rosie.  I am not sure why I bought the 2nd album Powerage. I guess I liked the 1st one so much, the 2nd could not be worse. That was true, Downpayment Blues for example, neverless it doesnt had hits. The most radiofriendly song Rock n Roll Damnation was not catchy enough, a bit boring really. I still want to create a mix with the best parts of every song on both CDs, I had to find time to listen, selecting, cutting, sorting and mixing it. One thing I am sure about,  there will be no animated video. I did it for Bit Trip Mad Mix and for Life Is Strange The Decision. Good ideas and so much time to create video thats not boring . It made me hate a lot of video editors, video converters . I will always remember AC/DC as band that played rock n roll like a real hard rock band.I dont have listen to other albums yet, maybe I will and become a real fan. After these 2 CDs I never bought other musics of them. Did I inform you about I dont like how the 2nd frontman sings ?

Let There Be Rock / Powerage

Let There Be Rock , Whole Lotta Rosie

Rock n Roll Damnation others ?

search for life versions of the songs

I wanted the create a mix of both albums witg the best parts. But a compiled live album with all songs of both albums should be fine too. I had a couple mp3 from old live concerts somewhere.

Fan Of Innocent Mission ?

Black Sheep Walls, I Remember Me

First album was full of nice music even top40 alike, 2nd was repeating the formula with 1 result. Not 1 song good enough to be released as single.

Fan Of The Mission ?

Gods Own Medicine, Bridges Are Burning

If you are depressed, listen  to this. You will like it more than when you are not.

Life is no fun, when your mind tell you so.

Fan Of 10CC ?

Silly Love, Art For Art Sake, Live Is a Minestrone,Dreadlock Holliday, Wallstreet Shuffle, The Thing We Do For Love, I'm Not In Love

Check so the strange history volume 1 mix of codley and creme.

Fan of Zo"e ?

2 CDs bought 1 happy and optimistic 1 sad and angry.

Hard to get the cds in nl, zoe is a common name but not very famous, she looks better than she can sing...

Fan of ELO ?

Lots of good songs at mk1 but lynne did not need violins anymore when synth were easier to use.

Fan of Flash & The Pan ?

Hey Sint Peter
Waiting For A Train
Midnight Man
Laila

Best Of...

Fan van Art of Noise

I always like electronic music and specially music made from samples. Not just samples from music instruments , like everybody does in the house scene, but different ones, like the human voice. I got hooked on the Art of Noise when I heard songs like Beatbox, Moments in Love, Paranomia, Kiss on the radio. Yes, I like AoN Mk 1 and 2. Mk 1 was more experimental than Mk 2, but both hsd good and bad tracks. On 1 of mySoundtracker disks I found a regular version of Moments In Love, which was used in Madonna's wedding with Sean Penn ?? The fun part with AoN Mk 2 was the kind of humour which was part 8f the songs, in Paranomia and Peter Gunn for example. I REALLY wanted to make a sort of elisa demo with Max Headroom pictures, but it wws never finished...

Fan of The Call

The Call was a kind of religious band and Lead singer, composer and bassist Michael Been was the core of the band.
They had a history of making 3 albums for a music company, had some success and get fired. I and my sister both bought albums and CDs of the band, which was strange.
Most of the time we disagree about our musical taste.

To be honest I only bought 1 album ("Into The Woods") and my sister bought several on CDs (from "Reconciled" till "To Heaven and Back").
I bought also the first solo album of Michael Been on CD, great guitar work, but the songs just not good enough to score a radio hit.

The Call makes rock music with a meaning. The way Michael Been performs each song is not always a pleasure for your ears (sometimes like wolf crying) and it gets you always under your skin. Even today.
I recorded once the best songs of The Call and it took me 90 + 45 minutes of tape to do so.

The Call had some success with songs "Everywhere I Go" with Bono in the background,  "Let The Day Begin" and "I Still Believe". But I found many other favs on each album.

At the end like so many groups, the core of the band (M.B.) started a solo career,
he wrote the soundtrack for a movie "Light Sleeper" and released a couple of albums himself. However, I think the best songs he ever wrote was with The Call.

You can find here the 2 sides of the C90 tape, which was in good shape consider the date of the recording. The second tape was compiled with some fav of an other underrated band Chagall Guevara with Steve Taylor as lead singer. Maybe I post about them too. Check out one of my favs

Now I will name a few favs of The Call like "Oklahoma", "Into The Woods", "Red Rain",
"A Swim In The Ocean".

To my suprise his son  Robert Levon Been plays also bass and has the same voice
as his dad, Michael Been, who died backstage in 2010. And Robert played live with other members of The Call with amazing results. They also still have a website
On YouTube I found an very long The Call Playlist, a tribute to The Call by The Simple Minds and also a (short) Playlist of all the musicvideos they made.

Listen and maybe you find yourself a new band to listen too.

Fan of Virtual Audio Project

Years ago I bought a 2CD pack online at ECI (now called bookspot), a shop with mostly books. They sell also a lot of music, computergames and some game gear, sometimes cheaper than other real games selling shops. The 2CD pack contains a CD called Mystery and the other Relax, I bought it cause I liked synthesizer music and the covers and titles seems interesting enough.

Well after a while I found myself standing at the cashout of a recordshop with more than 10 CD of the Virtual Audio Project (VAPs) in my hands. But most of the CDs I bought from their own webshop, not cheap unless you bought a lot of them together.
And so I did.

Virtual Audio Project is a CD-serie of a music-company in Italy called Cybertracks with maybe 15 composers. Each CD is recorded in Dolby Surround, has its own artwork, sometimes release notes (or inlay book). On each CD there are a lot of different composers with tracks that should fit the theme or title of the CD.

After more than 35 CDs with different themes, VAP started to repeat themes and music.
I lost interest buying more. Occasionly I listen to one of the VAPs, although most of the tracks are not house oriented, not a big problem, I still like some of the tracks.
Sadly, I dont have a stereoset with Dolby Surround, so until now I never heard how a VAP CD should sound. with Dolby Surround.

I played with the idea of uploading some of my favs CDs of VAP on YT, but as so many times, somebody else had the same idea. Not all, but bother the trouble of uploading the ones that are not on YT ?

When writing this post I ask myself do I want to buy the rest of the collection of VAPs ?
Well maybe someday, now I have more fun listening to Retro-Wave/Synth-Wave/Retro-Elektro mixes on YT.

Fan Of De Raggende Manne

Again it's time to post about some of my Dutch Music Memories. Ow, I am sorry.
This is the Fan Of Series. Good to know.

I was always a big fan of college rock or punk rock and when I heard the song
"Poep In Je Hoofd" on the radio, I wanted to find out more about this band "De Raggende Manne". Later I saw them playing live on TV a kind of ballad "Allemaal Voor Jou" .

For me 2 reasons to buy the CD called "Rooie Pap". Lucky for me there were enough other great songs and lots of Dutch humor too. Like a song for the Dutch king with a duration of 10 seconds.
Their greatest hit was "Nee's Niks" (see playlist) with a duration of say... 7 seconds, however, it was not included in any chart, cause the song had to be at least 30 seconds long.
Another plus for "Rooie Pap" was the multimedia part. Yes, it was an audioCD and a CD-ROM together. It was made with an old version of Quicktime of Apple and so it worked on Windows and Apple computers. The multimedia part was showing different parts of the body of De Raggende Man and by clicking on each part you got a different interactive part full of bizarre Dutch humor. I liked it a lot and made a video about the intro and menus. Not showing all the content, cause that would ruin the surprise, just making all watchers curious was my goal. Check it out, here.

After "Rooie Pap" I bought their CD "Zaad". It was noisy, avant-garde music with sometimes a bit of melody and strange lyrics. I only liked 2 songs 1 was a cover from Willeke Alberti

(by then famous Dutch female singer) "Telkens Weer" (see playlist).
I liked the jazzy style of De Raggende Manne and the way singer Bob Fosko performs this song I decided to create a 10-hour version...Telkens Weer means Once Again. ..get it?

Still "Zaad" was a bad buy and I bought the album they made after "Rooie Pap", called "Omschudden". Once again I didn't like most of the songs, it seems everybody was starting and stopping together at the same time but in between they go just randomly making music.
Only the protest song "Denk Daar Eens Over Na" ( about no drilling for gas or oil in the Wadden Sea, a famous Dutch nature area) was worthy to listen too. After that I never bought anything from De Ragende Manne... except a single from Bob Fosko the lead shouter of the band...and that is the other story...("Me Vader Is Behanger")

Their live performances were the best, but did never last more than 30 minutes, after that the band and the public were exhausted. I browsed YT and created a playlist of I think the best tracks you can find of De Raggende Manne, maybe it is even better than their Best of album called "Het Rottigste van De Raggende Manne."

Like so many groups they had their own comeback, at that time I already lost interest in them. However, the lead-shouter Bob Fosko is still active in all kind of activities, check out his website.

Fan of The Nits ???

Well, not me.

But my older sister was a big fan of the Dutch group The Nits and bought any album of them. To me, only some songs got me hooked, like their biggest hit In the Dutch mountains or Nescio or J.O.S. Days or The Train.

I mostly remember The Nits as a quartet and trio with Henk Hofstede as the lead singer, composer and driving force behind the group. The interaction between Stips and Hofstede made the group steady a lot of years.
After they split up, my sister was not fan anymore and I forgot all about them.

Yes ,they had a comeback (and still have),  just like so many other groups, but for me the thrill has gone. Who wants to see some old man playing old songs they played better 10
or 15 years ago ? I don't.

The Nits were maybe the first Dutch group that disvovered the theater as a new form to get more audience for their music ( and more record sales). It is hard to describe their music,
it's a sort of experimental pop with influences from other for away countries.

If you know there are no mountains in the Netherlands, only hills, but the Dutch people call them mountains, you get the joke of "In the Dutch mountains" and understand the musicvideo better.

Fan of Madness ???

Do you still ? remember it? No ? I'ts Madness you idiot. These guys made ska music populair with hits like One Step Beyond, Nightboat to Cairo, Baggy Trousers, Our house and plenty more. I was in a period that I bought only "Best of" CDs of artists I knew from a couple of hits, but never bought any album of them.
So I bought the "Divine Madness" which turned out to be more a single collection than a really the best of with only hits (I now found out it was the CD of the DVD with all their videos).

I didnt mind cause I discovered a lot of great songs I never heard of and even some ballads that were made more famous by other artists. Like My Girl and It Must Be Love. You have to listen to the lyrics, most of them are a bit cynical and sad, even in the most happy sounding songs like Baggy Trousers.

Years later, I saw a come back concert of Madness, no new songs, just a couple of teenagers of 40 years and older trying to be young again.
What a waste, it was easy money for Madness members.
For me time to switch the channel.

Fan of The Blues Brothers ???

I have told already some things about the movies "The Blues Brothers" and "Blues Brothers 2000" when I post about "Sollicitere" of Janse Bagge Bend.
If you read it you know what the movies are all about and the good music in it. When I found out The Blues Brothers were a real band I bought their album "Briefcase full of blues".

It wasn't what I expected after seeing the movie, I am still not a big fan of Rhythm & Blues. So it was a bit of a waste of money. I better had bought the soundtrack of the movie. Looking at the wiki page of the soundtrack, lots of good stuff was left behind. They had better decide to publish 2 versions, the standard and the extended version with 2 CDs.

I still liked the music of the first movie and the crazy story so when "Blues Brothers 2000" came out, I got to the cinema to watch it.
Like I said in an earlier post, better watch the songs from the movie and forget all about the story. After that, I was still a fan of The Blues Brothers, the 1st movie but not the band ( the picture, you see above, was hanging many years on my wall).

The 1st movie was such a great success, so they (Titus) made not 1 but 2 Blues Brothers video games.
It was simple platformers with good music of the movie, remade for FM soundcards, like the early Soundblasters.
When I search for pictures or even videos, I found a nice website where you can play them in your browsers!
Check them out, here and there.

Of course, there was also a Blues Brother 2000 game, this time only for Ninento 64 game console, you can try it here and there. On my computer, it was to slow to play. Better download an N64 emulator (like Project 64) and try your luck at some from the archive (like Rom Hustler) on the net.

I quit this post with some nice YouTube links with Blues Brothers (& Friends) music.
Hope they won't be banned soon.

Fan Of: Deacon Blue ?

You may ask, why the question mark. I had to think about it and this is what I can remember.

Once I bought "Whatever You Say, Say Nothing"  and I was very pleased by it.
Popsongs with a rocksound and a bit of electronics. Then I bought an earlier album "When the World Knows Your Name" . It sounded nothing like that other album, almost every song had strong parts and very weak part. In the end I was soo disappointed I never played it again or bought more albums of Deacon Blue. I guess my musictaste was changed, cause the album contained hits like "Queen of the New Year", "Wages Day", "Real Gone Kid", etc.

So I was fan of Deacon Blue for only 1 album and then they split.

This was another group I completly forgot, just like The Waterboys and recently dicovered again. I was searching on YouTube for The Waterboys songs for the playlist and on the right side YouTube showed me all at once "Real Gone Kid" of Deacon Blue. I played the song and started to look for more Deacon Blue and as a result I made also a playlist of my Deacon Blue favs. Yes, those 3 songs I mentioned are also part of it, they were not so bad at all and sounded "live" much better than the studio-version.

While I was compiling the playlist I found "Cut Lip" (also from  "Whatever You Say, Say Nothing" ) and I remembered I used a sample of the song, while I was fooling around with a free Windows Store software-program called Music Pad. And all these samples came from a very old disk which I created for use in a Windows Sounds scheme (very populair on Windows 98).

For me more reason not to ignore "Deacon Blue" songs, but you will see in my playlist that most songs are from "Whatever You Say, Say Nothing" my fav album of Deacon Blue.

My Music Memories: The Whole Of The Moon - The Waterboys

It's strange how some long forgotten music comes back to me.
Like this one: "The Whole of The Moon" of The Waterboys.

I was with my wife on a long journey with our car and there was not much good music on any radiostation. My wife asked me to search for the music CD-Rs I made for our marriage ceremony and reception, so we could listen next time to those old songs we loved both.

Back home I started the search for the CD-Rs and found 5 out of 6. I remembered I made also tapes of these CDRs in case the CDRs was not working (indeed, in the town hall they had to play the tape instead). In the end, I had more than 10 tapes I liked to have recorded as mp3, still tape 6 kept missing. I guess there was never a CD-Rs with number 6.

So I started playing the tapes on my Hifi-system, while converting them on-the-fly to
mp3-files. As always I listen to the first part of the first song of every tape sides.

Then I heard a piano, battling with an organ, some weird violin notes. The voice of Mike Scott started and the song stayed in my head for more than a week.
Backing vocals, some trumpets, a saxophone solo, it was all too much for me to take.

I started searching for more of The Waterboys, found other songs I was forgotten
(I bought once The Best of The Waterboys 81-90 on cassette, I lost it somehow)
and created a playlist on YouTube.

Now I have listened to a lot of The Waterboys (aka Mike Scott and others) and
there are 3 albums you should listen if you like this song "The Whole Of The Moon"
(from "This Is The Sea")

In the right order, they are: A Pagan Place, This Is the Sea and Fisherman's Blues.

And you can listen to the rest as a bonus.

Well, you might think Mike Scott is not a good singer, but he knows how to put emotion in each song that will going straight to your heart.

I wasn't sure I should post it on Fan Of or My Music Memories, cause after I bought "The Best of " (mainly cause I like "The Whole.." and "A Girl Called Johnny" ) I never had the urge to buy more albums of The Waterboys.

Today I might be a fan, considering I like at least 3 albums very much.
U2 ?

Fan of Robert Palmer

Its strange.  I never guessed I would create a post about Robert Palmer,  cause I was never a big fan of his music.

I bought his Addictions 1 and 2, but that was it. No Greatest hits or best of. However when I found out "I Dream Of Wires" was a cover of Gary Numan song I knew I had to post about Robert Palmer.

He died in 2003 and had a lot of hits in the 70s / 80s and 90s.
To name a few Best of Both Worlds, Looking For Clues, Some Kinda People, Addicted to Love and much much more.

He wasnt a great singer, but sings how the song must sound like.

I was suprised when I listened to both Addictions how many songs I already knew and and how many of the other  songs
I could add to my fav songs ever.

Including the cover I Dream Of Wires.
Sorry Gary, Robert Palmer is a better singer than you. Robert made a more smoothened version so more people could enjoy it.

I tries very hard to find any Robert Palmer music, besides the live performances
( if the band is good, Robert Palmer is good, else not)  and a few videoclips of his greatest hits. So I tried my luck on Vimeo, even lesser than YT.

I am no very sorry I sold my 2 Addictions, I am planning to buy them somewhere again. Or even maybe a Best Of. After his career as popartist he switched over to a new one , with a big orchestra singjng jazzy things, yeah not my cup of tea. I will remember Robert Palmer for his great sing-along songs in different genres like pop, rock, reggae and was never afraid the be a bit experimental.

Here are some artists that really know how to play Robert Palmer songs:
Tina Turner
The Heavytones
Los Cenzontles
Robert Palmer

No suprise, Robert Palmer is the best performer of his own songs.
And despite all the coverbands playing Addicted to Love, there are very few artists who done a Robert Palmer cover, which is (to my opinion) a real shame.

Last but least: Robert Palmer did cover some songs from The Beatles, even a very strange version of Drive my car as a duet with a Japanese girl.

Happy Halloween: Creepy music from the Virtual Audio Project

I always try to create an MSX part and a Music part (mostly from YouTube) for very special days. During the year is that Valentine's Day (no clue with to post), Halloween (you reading it right now), Xmas (of course) and New Year's Day ( best wishes blabla...)

I had not much inspiration about what to do with Halloween and Music, when I remember I had 2 audio-CDs full of scary music of the Virtual Audio Project. I was a huge fan of V.A.P. and collected more than 30 of them (still I'm missing 11 pieces). I will create another post about the Virtual Audio Project later on.

First I searched for the original audio-CDs, I had them stored in a special blue CD-map.
Then I searched for the right titles, it was "Adrenaline Issue 9" and "Nightmares Issue 26"
And I started thinking, will I create a short video of the best track of these CDs or not.

Then I found at allmusic.com a lot of Virtual Audio Project, especially both scary ones.
You could listen to them for maybe 30 seconds, but it's a start to hear what you like...
Then I started searching for big YT and somebody had there put his entire collection of V.A.P., not a big as mine own collection, still impressive.

I listened to both YT videos and the differences between "Adrenaline" and "Nightmares"
are in the length of the tracks, on "Nightmares" they are much longer, not creepier.
In the end, I was happy when I finished listening, every horror film doesn't have a scary music for more than 1 hour constantly.

My favorites are the first track of "Adrenaline" and the last track of "Nightmares".
Better listen for yourself.

And recently there has been a breakup in the team behind mix.dj, some started a completely new website with the old name mix.dj and others gave the old website a new look a new name: https://www.edeejay.com/

So if you want Halloween music in different music-styles better visit both and search for Halloween 2017, I'm sure it will be already Halloween 2018 before you have listened to them all.
And big YT has plenty Halloween music 2017 in store for you.

Fan of Alannah Myles

There are a couple of female  (rock) singers I really liked the music from.
Most of the time I just bought 1 album, cause most of the time the 1 after was not worth buying. But not Alannah Myles.

She had a big hit with the blues song "Black Velvet" from her 1st album, but the second single "Love Is" was a failure, more an nice album track than a potential hit single. The 1st album was loaded with fresh pop rock songs and some rock ballads which were a little cliche.
So I bought her 2nd album blindly, cause the 1st single
"Song instead of a kiss" , was a very sad song with lots of violins and very different from the style of the 1st album.
The 2nd album was a little different than the 1st album, sadly the songs seems repeat themself in the endings.
Still I enjoyed it enough to buy a 3rd and a 4th album.
After that no new album came out and the last thing I found out , was the announcing of a "Best of" with some new songs. At that time I was less interested in buying a full prize album for a couple of new songs...

I think her first album was the best she's ever made, although she recovered recently a new version of her big hit "Black Velvet", with no suprises. She has still a great voice, but the songs are just not really catchy anymore.

Some links to websites:  Google+  and a strange Polish (?) website

A lot of female artists covered her "Black Velvet", so I choose different ones, a duet with Ali Milner and a group called The Johnson Report

BTW: I remembered that Ernst Schuller of Unicorn Corportation made Alannah Myles covers
in FM Basic.

I searched and found them on The Library Series #1, full of own compo's and great MSX-fan musics.
If you like you can download it from Gavitex or Mediafire. I liked some of the songs that much that I converted them into FAC Soundtracker or Moonblaster musics. Which ones ? In another post maybe...

MSX-1 Beatles FM-Music demo

After I posted "Fan Of The Beatles" I remembered that EMP-Soft  (which I was a member of) released a small Beatles FM-Music demo, completly made in MSX-1 Basic, but the music was made MSX-Music not MSX-PSG.
In this demo all music was made by Elko Duijm and all gfx by me.But to make the music more interesting I changed sometimes the solo instrument during the songs.
Why MSX-1 ?
I just wanna proof that MSX-Music or FM-Music wasn't only MSX-2(+) or higher, it runs fine on every MSX-1, but nobody made any MSX-1 software.
If you dont believe me, check out the menu program in the original FM-Pac, its made in MSX-1 colors...

About the music, you can hear some small mistakes in timing, but some arrangements are
very fresh, like Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby and Michelle. The music was arranged and converted
to FM-Basic in SynthSaurus 2.0, so that why the drums seems a bit monotone.

I made a program to generate weird FM-sounds and because the screen took some time
to be generated I added these FM-sounds during the waiting, still fun/annoying to hear...

PS there is a hidden song in the demo, but that one will be easy to find...

I uploaded the demo in LZH and ZIP, cause LZH is more used in the MSX-world, and ZIP is more common in the PC-world.
Hope you enjoy this little demo, I had to create 3 parts, otherwise all songs didnt fit in a single MSX-Basic program...
